PATIENT INSTRUCTION.
CRYOTHERAPY
or cyrosurgery refers to the use of extremely cold
temperatures to cause tissue destruction.
After treatment you may experience a stinging
sensation for 5-40 minutes. If very
painful, soak in warm water. An
anti-inflammatory medication may help, your doctor or nurse will advise.
The area may become raised with a surrounding
white ring.
Overnight a blister and occasionally even a
blood blister may form.
Some swelling may occur around the lesion
especially near the eyes and lips.
The treated area may weep for a few days and
then dry to form a crust. On no
account tamper with the crust as this will affect healing and the final result.
It may take two to three weeks for the crust to
separate. On the face the crust may
come off sooner.
The treated area may be red or dark brown for a
while but will gradually fade. All
these changes are quite normal.
Wash the area gently once or twice daily.
You may cover the area if you wish for cosmetic reasons changing the
plaster at least daily. It is preferable to leave the area open to dry.
No other special treatment is necessary.
Your doctor or practice nurse will advise you
when to return if a second treatment is required.
