/ Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do digital mole mapping and skin cancer checks?

Yes, you've come to the right place! That's what we specialise in. (If you need help with a skin condition such as eczema, or have a skin flare-up such as a rash, we encourage you to make an appointment with your GP).

Do I need my doctor to refer me for a skin check?

You do not need a GP referral to make an appointment. Your GP may refer you for a general skin check or a specific lesion they are concerned about.

Does my doctor receive a copy of my report ?

With your permission, a report will be sent to your GP.

What should I wear to my skin cancer examination?

You may be asked to change into a medical gown, so please wear underwear you feel comfortable wearing.

Will I have any suspicious moles removed during the examination ?

No. Any suspicious moles that require removal will be booked for another appointment. However areas of sun damage that require liquid nitrogen treatment may be treated during your consult.

Is dermoscopic scanning safe during pregnancy or while I am breastfeeding?

Absolutely. Dermoscopic scans are totally safe during pregnancy or if you are breast feeding.

How often should I have a complete skin cancer check?

This varies depending on your family and personal history of skin cancer and your age. As a guide those under 40 years old are generally checked every 2 years and those over 40 years old are checked annually. You will be advised on the most appropriate review time after you have been assessed.

Do you send out reminders when my next visit is due?

Yes, we send out a reminder letter or email (depending on what you prefer) a month before your visit is due.

What should I do if a mole changes before I am due for my next check up?

It is not uncommon for moles to change, or new lesions to develop, between visits. We therefore recommend you check your skin every 3 months. Please contact us immediately if you notice any changes. Click on this link to get info on how to check your skin. Self Examination Sheet
